CleanautsFree is a free but very limited version of Cleanauts. Cleanauts is a revolutionary new type of puzzle game for both children and adults alike. The objective of the game is to remove all tiles from a grid in a minimum number of turns. CleanautsFree is limited to just 60 puzzles with a given minimum, but gives you nevertheless a glimpse of the surprising beauty of the game. Cleanauts contains over 180,000 puzzles with a given minimum, enough for a lifetime! At the start of the puzzle you are presented with a grid of randomly coloured tiles. A given minimum of turns is shown in the top-right corner of the game. Select and delete every turn a random rectangular block of tiles of the same color or just a single tile. After a turn the remaining tiles rearrange to the top left of the deleted block or tile. The turn counter increases by one. Repeat this process until the grid is empty. If the grid is empty and the number of turns matches the given minimum number of turns, the puzzle is solved. It sounds easy, it looks easy, but it can be quite a brain teaser! The first time the game is started after downloading, you will see a 3x3 two-coloured grid. This is the introduction level. You will have no difficulty with solving (most) of these. All features are accessible with only four tabs. Under the tab ‘prefs’ you can set all game settings and find the game instructions. The most important game settings are the number of rows and columns (grid size) and the number of colours. CleanautsFree has five grid sizes with two or three colours. This results in ten levels of difficulty. Only the grid sizes 3, 4 and 5 show a given minimum of turns. In the bigger grids of 6 and 7 you establish your own minimum. In CleanautsFree gridsize 8 is not available. Under the tab ‘play’ you can play the game as explained previously. All moves can be reversed with the use of two buttons. Go back to the start of the puzzle or go back one turn. After cleaning the grid two additional buttons appear offering to play the same puzzle again or to play a new puzzle. Under the tab ‘edit’ you can construct your own new challenge. In the selected grid it’s possible to change the colour of every single tile. After editing you can play this puzzle by tapping the tab ‘play’. You can play or compete with friends by editing the same puzzle and trying to find the absolute minimum number of turns. Under the tab ‘store’ you can save or load a game by selecting one of the two buttons. Tapping one of nine squares results in saving the current puzzle or loading a previously saved puzzle.
